The ingredients needed to make Dal fry:
  1. Take 1 cup tur dal
  2. Get as required garlic, green chillies, coriander,
  3. Get 1 tomato, onion
  4. Prepare 1 tbsp Jeera,
  5. Get 2 dry red chillies,
  6. Prepare as per taste salt,
  7. Take 1 lime
  8. Get as needed haldi powder, dhania powder

A spoon of desi ghee (clarified butter) or butter makes dal fry even more aromatic and delicious. To make the dal fry, I first boil the dal with turmeric and salt and then make the masala in a separate pan. Most of the flavor of this dal comes from using fresh onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic. So you don't need a ton of spices here.

Steps to make Dal fry:
  1. Pressure cook one cup tur dal. Take at least 4 whistles
  2. Take a kadai and heat it. To it add ghee after it gets heated add zeera.
  3. After zeera splutters to it add some crushed garlic, green chillies and few coriander leaves and saute nice for 2 minutes. Do not burn
  4. To this add onion, tomato, and stir again for 5 more minutes till tomato gets mushy. Then add dal, and salt to taste.
  5. Let it boil nicely and stir it time to time. Squeeze a lemon. And check fr taste.
  6. Then take ghee in a tadka vessel and give tadka of broken 2 dry red chillies.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Most of the flavor of this dal comes from using fresh onion, tomatoes, ginger and garlic. So you don't need a ton of spices here. I have just used a bit of garam masala, chili powder and kasuri methi for that fragrance at the end. dal fry recipe is a popular Punjabi dal fry. A mixture of moong and masoor dal cooked to perfection in dhaba style dal fry and perked up with an aromatic tempering along with fried onions and tomatoes. This dal fry has a very pleasing texture and irresistible flavour too.
