Til ki chikki is a popular Makar Sankranti festive treat that is made with just three ingredients - sesame seeds, gur and ghee. This sweet snack has all the properties to keep you warm in the last leg of the winter season while boosting your immunity and keeping you safe from cold and cough, which are quite rampant in this weather. Til Chikki recipe is a traditional Indian brittle (sweet) made of roasted sesame seeds and jaggery on the festive occasion of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. It is also known as Til Gajak, Til Gud Chikki, or sesame chikki.

The ingredients needed to make Til chikki:
  1. Get 1 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  2. Prepare 1 cup jaggery
  3. Take 2 tsp ghee

Til chikki is a popular dessert crisp made to celebrate the harvest festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti. Chikki always beings back fond childhood memories of lohri celebrations. This sweet is mainly prepared with sesame seeds (til) and jaggery. Sesame seeds can keep your body warm in the cold weather which is why it is prepared during this season.

Instructions to make Til chikki:
  1. Roast the sesame seeds on low to medium flame for about 7 to 10 minutes. Keep stirring in between.
  2. Now add 1 tsp ghee n add jaggery. Let it melt. Keep stirring n break the lumps. Make it smooth.
  3. When you see small bubbles rise in the syrup, stir continuously until the color changes to a slightly golden brown.
  4. Check the syrup is cooked or not. Drop some syrup in cold water n take on fingers. It should break not stretch.
  5. Now add sesame seeds and mix well.
  6. Grease any surface with ghee, take out the mixture on it. and spread well. Roll thin block with rolling pin.
  7. Make Cuts of your desired shape n let it be cooled down. Then separate each piece and enjoy this winter special chikki.

This sweet is mainly prepared with sesame seeds (til) and jaggery. Sesame seeds can keep your body warm in the cold weather which is why it is prepared during this season. Jaggery has its own various health benefits. As the two auspicious festivals; Sankranti & Pongal are just a day away, here are two sweets which are made during these festivals.
